WANGANUI GOSSIP RULANUT'S SORENESS SATISFACTORY PROGRESS MADE [BY TELEGRAPH —OWN CORRESPONDENT] WANGANUI, Monday The news that Rulanut was under a ; cloud came as a shock to many who had early selected him for the Easter Handicap at Ellerslie. However, there is still reason to believe that he will fulfil his engagement, for reports from his owner's farm at Maxwell indicate that he has been making satisfactory progress, although he is not' likely to appear at Ellerslie until the eleventh hour. Whether Mother Superior will contest the Great Northern Oaks or the Easter Handicap may not be definitely known until late in the week. Prior to leaving Fordell for Ellerslie last week she ran a solid mile, registering very satisfactory time. The Fordell team for Feilding will consist only of Porotiti and Boon. The former i 3 engaged i.n the Mangaone Handicap, in which he is set to concede the well- i performed Royal Routine slb. Judging by hiis Trentham displays, he has not much chance of getting in the money. It is understood that Boon is to have his last chance at Feilding, as he will be seat to his owner's farm to be used as a hack if he does not perform well. He is rather moody and at times has shown brilliancy, but lately has done nothing to warrant a high opinion of his prospects. Good Conduct should be prominent in the Taonui Nursery at Feilding, for on Saturday she slipped over half a mile in a tick over 495. Although she was assisted by the wind, which was of almost gale force, she shaped very well and appears to be forward enough to run a good race. Lattice, who accompanied Good Conduct in the gallop, will also go to Feilding, and so will Entail, who will be bracketed with her if the two sturt in the Nursery. Both have been getting along well in their preparation. Both Pomp and Rust, Mr. G. M. Currie's representatives in the principal handicap events at Feilding. h-ive been getting along well in their training. If Rust can reproduce heir early autumn form she should play a pzominent part in the Manchester Handicap next Saturday Pomp ran sowell at Awapuni that he will rot lack friends. Grand Jury, who was recently thrown out of work owing to developing soreness, has shown no sign 3of the trouble since arriving at his owner's farm at Turakina Yiilley. However, he will not join the active brigade until later in the season. RIDING ENGAGEMENTS JOCKEYS FOR ELLERSLIE Hiding engagements for the Auckland Racing Gab's meeting are as follows: F. Foster. —Mangru King, London. I. C Smith —Rcyal Artist. Light Comedy, Imamint. T. Webster.—Haut Monde, Red Manfred. R. Marsh.—ll Duce. Plato. 'H N. Wiggin3—Mother Superior, Sir Abb. , . H. CANTATA'S LARGE DIVIDEND SECOND START IN A RACE Cantata, who paid a dividend of over a century and a-half in winning the Buller Trot at Westport on. Saturday, is a three-year-old ma re by Roy de Or" from Drumly, and is trained b7 H. Roberts at Weatport. The owner, Dr. 1. C. D. Simpson, of Ngakaivau, whet held one of the two £1 tickets issued on the mare, also owns the racehorse Supreme Court. The first and second favourites, Broughshane and Brian Boru, collided before a furlong had been coveied. Sadie Axworthy, War Lass and Cantata eaily gained a substantia] lead and at the hallf-rnile Cmtata took command, going on to win easilj' by three lengths from Salue, with Nonnie Wrack two lengths away third. Cantata had started only once before, at the: Westport Trotting Club's Christmas meeting. GRAND NATIONAL WINNER A DREAM THAT CAME TRUE Reynoldstown, winner of the Grand National Steeplochase at Aintree on March 29, is a very proficient jumper and has had a Sot of race experience. His owner-trainer. Major Noel Furlong, has had a considerable amount of success under National Hunt rules Two years ago he saddled Really True for the Grand National Steepiechass, and the gelding wrs ridden bv the major'p son. Frank, who rodo Reynoldstown to victory. Really True, against whom very long odds were offered, gave a firfit-claM performance and beat all but Kelhboro' Tuck, ridden by the professional,, Dudley Williams. After Uia( race Major Furlongs wife, when talking to Mrs. Ambrose £'*rk. ow«er of KVllsboro* Jack, said. I My brother-in-Inw, who is staying with us. dreamed thai 3'our horse would win. He told us he had ro'en quite plainly that No. 7 had won the Grand National, and that our horse. Really True, had finished second. So vivid was the dri;am that he decided to back Kellsboro' Jack, which was No. 7 on the card, to win, and Really True for a This certainly must, be classed as a "really true" dream story, Mr. Frank Furloiuj is a subaltern in the 9th Lancers. Last year he joined his father in iiutieriritending their small te«m in work at Skitfii ngton Hall, Leicester They began the season 'with si* geldsngb, all jumpers, two of them being Really True and Reynoldstown.
