AUCKLAND ASSOCIATION INCREASE IN CLUB TEAMS v Reference to the success: attending the,activities of the Auckland Hockey Association the past year was made by Mr. H. B. Speight, who presided at the annual meeting last night. He said there was a larger number of clubs playing than in tho previous season, and it appeared that other new clubs would be seoking affiliation this year. The report stnted that 36 teams hod been entered in grade competitions, ari increase of four over the previous year, while the number of primary schools' teams increased from five to 11. Affiliations increased from 11 clubs and six sub-ass«ciations to 13 and seven respectively. Three matches were played for tho New Zealand Challenge Shield, Waikato, Wellington and Manawatu being defeated. Tarannki against challenged for the Junior Cup, and was defeated by 4 goals to 3. As no challenges were received, Auckland Grammar School retained _ the Rankin Memorial Cup. The Country Week and iKing'B Birthday carnivals had both moved very successful. During the 6e;ason an Australian team visited the Dominion and played 18 matohes, winning 11, losing six and drawing one. The game against Auckland had been drawn, three-all. hut two sub : asso.ciations, Piako and Rodney, scored victories over the visitors. It was reported that a former Auckland and Waikato representative, R. L.
