DUKE OF GLOUCESTER
RACE FOR POLO PONIES PRINCE GETS SECOND PLACE KINGSTON (Jamaica), March 7 After a stormy passage across the Caribbean Sea, H.M.A.S. Australia anchored off Kingston at 8.30 a.m. yesterday. The Duke of Gloucester was welcomed by the small white and enormous coloured Jamaican populations. Yesterday afternoon the Duke rode in a four furlong hurry-scurry for polo ponies. There were nine starters, and the Prince's and Mr. Densham's mounts led neck and neck up the straight. It looked either's race until the numbers showed the Prince as the winner. Cheers were changed to "Ohs" a few minutes later When the order was reversed, placing the Prince second. The Duke and Duchess of Kent, who delayed their departure from Jamaica to await the Duke of Gloucester, are staying at Montego Bay. Prince Henry will meet his new sister-in-law at the end of this week.
