ODDFELLOWS CONFER

THE AUCKLAND BRANCH BENEFITS TOTAL £28,793 Ift a report presented at the annual" meeting of the Auckland branch of the Manchester Unity Oddfellows, which was concluded in the Oddfellows' Hall yesterday, it was shown that a total of £28.793 had been paid out to members during the past year. This consisted of £13,468 for sick pay, £lßl7 funeral allowances, £9257 medical attendance and medicine, and £4250 in payment of hospital accounts. About 80 delegates were present at the meeting, which was presided over by the retiring district grand master, Mr. J. E. Allan. It was resolved that a remit be sent to the Dominion council of Friendly Societies requesting that the Government should be asked to reinstate payment of lodge secretaries for furnishing annual reports returns to the registrar. The Loyal Gisborne Lodge won the shield for lodges of over 200 members and the Loyal Waitakaruru Lodge for lodges with a membership of under 200, Loyal Avon being runner-up. It was decided to request district officers to organise a picnic to be held about January 29 and annually thereafter. The following officers were elected: — District grand master, Bro. T. W. Thompson (Hamilton Lodge); deputygrand master, Bro. S. D. (Pupuke); district warden, Bro. F. N. Bushell, P.G.; district trustee, Bro. F. A. Smith, P.D.G.M.; district auditor. Bro. W.
