FAITH HEALING
CHURCH PAPER'S CRITICISM
OFFICIAL SUPPORT DEPLORED LONDON, Feb. 9 " Where healing and religion are identified religion is likely to be th© loser," says the Church Times which severely criticises the faith-healing services conducted at Brighton by the Rev.: John Maillard, an Anglican clergyman.'
The paper says it regarfls it as regrettable that official commendation: should have been given to a priest, however devoted and sincere, who encourages faith in his own method of healing by shaking people's faith ia doctor, surgeon and nurse.
The writer continued: —"It is merciful that the labours of the scientist are a true response to Christ's command to heal the sick. It would bo nothing short of disastrous if the Church should assume an obscurantist attitude in face of some of God's most beneficent gifts to suffering humanity."' Frederick Jary, a resident of Brighton, claims to have been cured of facial paralysis by "?lr. Maillard. Ho says his features were so contorted that he was unable to see without pushing up his eyelids and throwing back his head. •
" I can hardly believe it," Mr. Jary went on, "but the contortion is gone, and I can see normally, and am as fit as ever."
