RACING IN DOMINION
OWNER'S GRIEVANCES MR. WEBSTER IN SYDNEY (Received February 12. 12.35 a.m.} SYDNEY, Feb. 11 Mr. A. D. Webster, New Zealand racehorse owner and trainer, who arrived in Sydney to-day, stated in an interview that racing in New Zealand under present conditions was hopeless. The totalisator took 17} per cent and owners were practically compelled to make themselves scarce when they fancied their horses in the interests of better dividends.
Centralisation, a reduction of taxation and the licensing of, bookmakers in competition with the totalisator were essential if racing was to continue in the Dominion.
