BRITISH RAILWAY
OIL-DRIVEN COACHES TESTS NOW IN HAND (Received February 11, 7.25 p.m.) LONDON. Feb. 10 The London, Midland and Scottish Railway Company is testing a new oildriven railway coach which it hopes to utilise in a big speed-up. This, perhaps, will give six trains a day to Scotland, each carrying 200 passengers, instead of two steam trains with 600 passengers each. The coach has rubber tyres and its maximum speed is 90 miles an hour, with great powers of acceleration. The running cost of this light unit is only half that of an ordinary train.
