GIRLS' LIFE BRIGADE
• RECEPTION TO LEADER A reception was given in the Auckland Sunday School Union building last evening by the president and officers ot' the union and the commandant and officers of the Auckland Battalion of the Girls' Life Brigade, in honour of Mr. and Mrs. George H. Cook, of England. In welcoming Mr. and Mrs. Cook, the president of the union, Mr. W. Hew. spoke of the splendid service rendered by Mr. Cook as chairman of the National Sunday School Union, vicepresident of the Boys' Life Brigade and chairman of the Girls' Life Brigade in London. On behalf of the officers of the Girls' Life Brigade in Auckland, a welcome was extended to Mrs. Cook by Miss D. Earle, commandant of the Auckland Battalion. A brief outline of the growth of the brigade since its inception in New Zealand five years ago was given by Miss Earle, who said there were 32 companies operating in New Zealand, seven of which were in Auckland. In expressing thanks for the welcome extended to them, Mr. Cook paid a tribute "to the work done by the Auckland Sunday School Union and briefly outlined the vital points of the work being done in England among the hoys and girls. Mrs. Cook spoke of the great pleasure it had been to her to see the growth of the life brigade movement in New Zealand since her visit here ten years ago. Formed 3.3 years ago. the brigade now had a membership of 44,000 and was represented in every continent. The Rev. L. B. Bnsfield, secretary to the Auckland Sundav School Union, and M iss Bnsfield, Dominion secretary of the Girls' Life Brigade, also spoke.
