. To Sir Hamilton Harty last month was presented the gold medal of the Royal Philharmonic Society, an honour of no common kind, since its recipients, although thfcj cover a century and more, are few enough and include some of the greatest names in music of their day and generation. The presentation was made by Lord Londonderry, who besides being Secretary of State for Air is both a music lover and an Ulsterian compatriot of Sir Hamilton Harty's. He passed some gracefully complimentary remarks about Harty's careor and achievements, saying not loast felicitously that Sir Hamilton Harty's work as composer, conductor and accompanist had done something toward setting the strings of Tara's harp vibrating onoe raoro.
