THE DAIRY INDUSTRY

INTERESTS OF SUPPLIERS RESOLUTIONS AT MEETINGS [from our own correspondent] HAMILTON, TVednesday Various matters of importance to the dairying industry were discussed at a conference at Te Awamutu of committeemen representing suppliers to the Now Zealand Co-operative Dairy Company, Limited. Mr. J. T. Young, a director of the company, presided, and Mr. 11. H. McKenzio, chairman of directors, and Mr. C. J. Parlane, general manager, were also present. The meeting reaffirmed its strong disapproval of quotas or embargoes being placed on the export of dairy farm produce. Further, the meeting protested very strongly against the manner in which the embargo on veal was lifted, and requested that the Government should compensate the producers for the loss incurred through the embargo being imposed earlier in the season. Another resolution was passed that the Government be requested to place dairy farm products, such a's bobby veal, boner beef and pork, under the control of the Dairy Board instead of under the Meat Board, as at present.

The meeting also expressed its resentment of the attitude of the Minister of Finance, Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates, in reference to the proposed legislation when placing it before various organisations, and strongly protested that no criticism was invited from primary producers, who were mostly concerned. A conference of suppliers' committeemen was also held at Otorohanga, Mr. F. Phillips, the local director, being chairman. A review of the operations of the company was submitted to the meeting, and various matters were discussed. It was resolved to recommend to the Government that its appointees on the Dairy Board be bona fide dairy producers; that representatives of the Dairy and Meat Boards on the Executive Commission should be appointed by and be subject to recall by the respective boards, and not appointed by the Government, as at present; and that the bobby calf, boner, beef and pork industries should be placed under the Dairy Board, instead of under the Meat Board as at present.
