MAHAKIPAWA PROSPECTS The directors of Mahakipawa, Goldfields, Limited (Marlborough), report - that early in October it was found - necessary to cease work in the main face, from which a good return, of gold was being obtained, owing to the drive - approaching the danger area in the neighbourhood of the old Golden Gate shaft. This shaft is. connected with the old King Solomon Mine at the head of the valley and as all these old 14 workings are flooded, great care had % to be taken that the leading face did -;, not break through before .the water had been pumped out. A fluming to take the flow of water past the com- ~ pany's shaft had been comploted and pumping was commenced after the holidays. During the past few months the Alice Fell shaft had been recon- 7 ditjioned and a drive put through to connect the shaft with the present workings. A new poppet head was being erected at this shaft and it was : intended to make this the main shaft ; from which the mine would be oper- ' ated in the future. The work had en- ! tailed heavy expenditure and payment of preference share dividend had been postponed until work was resumed in the main face. HARAKEKE OPTION Negotiations, are in hand for the sale of the whole of the undertaking of Harakeke Mines, Limited, at Coromandel, to a group of English investors and an option has been granted. The ~ company is continuing with the work* "" ing of the claim. It is expected that the access road will be finished within the next week, and as the new plant & is ready for delivery, installation will be commenced immediately. ~ * YIELDS OF COMPANIES King Solomon Mine (Gore). —For the err four days' work, this week the wash-up 1T was 530z. 3dwt. -ic: REPORTS OF MANAGERS Monowai (Waiomo, Thames) .—To _ - test the Monowai formation at depth rl * a new level is being projected from a r point 220 ft. below the present low level.
