MR. ALEXANDER POYNTON SERVICES TO - AUSTRALIA ADELAIDE, Jan. 10 The death has occurred of Mr. Alexander Poynton, at the age of 81.. He ■was one of the last surviving members of the first Commonwealth Parliament. He was Treasurer in the Hughes Government of 1917. The late Mr.' Alexander Poynton when he retired in 1922, was the last of the batch of original South Australian members of the Federal House of Representatives. During his career he had been Chairman of Committees, Treasurer, Acting-Minister of the rsavy, Minister in charge of Shipping, Minister for Home and Territories, and Post-master-General. He was in the Federal Cabinet during the most troubled days of the war, ?nd, although he was 65 years old then, displayed a remarkable capacity for hard work.' He was a. native of Castlemaine. ~
