NEW DWELLINGS AND SHOPS [I'KOM our own correspondent] KAITAIA, Thursday The building permits issued by the Kaitaia Town Board in the nine months from April 1 to December 31, 1934, show the recent growth'of the town. During the period six permits were issued for new dwellings, representing an expenditure of £2610, while six permits were issued for alterations and additions at a cost of £5lO. One block of shops, at a cost of £1865, was erected during the period, and five business premises were altered or added to at a cost of £BSO. This makes a total expenditure on buildings in the town area during the nine months of £5875. In tho year ended March 31, 1934, nine permits for new buildings, at a cost of £4894, were issued, and in the previous year were issued three permits representing a value of £2300. For the nine months just past tho value of work on new buildings was only £389 short of tho value for tho whole of the previous year, and £2205 in excess of that for the year before. To keep pace with this improvement and expansion, the Town Board is contemplating permanently surfacing the main road, thus doing away with the dust nuisance. The board is also considering the installation of a water supply and an electric light scheme for the township. TAURANGA ACTIVITY RESIDENCES BEING BUILT [by TELEGRAPH OWN CORRESPONDENT") TAURANGA, Thursday The building trade continues to be brisk and numerous residences are in tho courso of erection in many parts of the borough. The inspector reported to the council last night that since his last report nine building permits had been issued for work to the estimated value of £1415.
