OREWA BEACH

Sir. —'Reading the letter by .Mr. E. M. Cross, many people who do not know Orewa Beach may get the impression that this is a dangerous beach for bathing. Having known Orewa for the last 15 years, 1 can say it is as near foolproof as any beach in the world. For a mile and a-half from the northern end any child can play in the water at any state of the tide and in any weather. The place where danger exists is at the mouth of the Orewa River, when the tide is running out. This is the only place where anv accidents have occurred. Certainly a large notice-board should be erected drawing the attention of strangers to. this danger. A surf club is out of the question for lack of resident population: and a reel and line in an unlocked shed at Orewa would not be of use for long. W. F. Gkf.F.N.
