RISE IN PRICES FOR BANKS

Narrow fluctuations in levels accompanied a moderate turnover of business on the Auckland Stock Exchange yes>prdav. Improvement was shown in «de prices for banks. The demand ior Government loans expanded slightly, but supplies were again scarce. The only sale was in 1946 4 per cent bonds 2s Gd higher at £lO5 10s. In banks, New Zealands were taken 2d dearer at 49: 1, but more were not panted at that price, although inquiry continued a shade firmer than on the previous day. Reserve Banks were quoted Is lower at £6 12s and buyers responded with an increase of 6d to £6 lis (3d in 6tfers. Following a transaction 10s higher at £3l 15s the demand for New " South Wales was slightly easier. Commercials changed hands at 36s 6d, a rise of Id. Improvement was shown in the inquiry for Australasias, [Unions and English, Scottish and Australians. No business wis done m the insurance group. New Zealands were sought (3d higher at 69s and Nationals at 21s 6d, a rise of 3d. In the first sale this year Colonial Pugars were done 2s 6d dearer at £42 12 s (3d, levels showing an advance on the previous day. New Zealand Tvewspapers were easier and sales at 32s 6d and 32s registered u full drop of Is. Milns and Choyce 6 per cent .Preference sold at 235, compared with 18s 3d three years ago. Business m Dominion Investment and Banking, Northern Steamship and Consolidated Brick was at current rates.
