. INCREASE IN AUCKLAND STEADY UPWARD TREND ( BUSIER HOLIDAY PERIOD An increase is shown in nearly all sections of railway business in tho Auckland district. The figures for tho four weeks ended on January 5, compared with those for the four weeks ended on January 6, 19.'M, record an increase in passenger traffic and revenuo and in live stock carried, although there has been some decline in the goods traffic. The passengers carried during the past four weeks, which include the peak of the holiday season, numbered 196,966, compared with 184,692 carried in the corresponding period 12 months ago.The revenue this time was £31,027, compared with £30,231. Goods tonnage dropped by about 10,000 from /8,932 tons a year ago to 68,978. Live stock traffic, however, showed a very marked increase, particularly in sheep, the numbers of which rose by 33,000 from 137,199 to 170,624. The cattle carried increased by about 1000. Tho increase in the revenue from all classes of goods was £1750 and the increase in revenuo from all sources £2150.

An examination of the figures over a longer period shows that the upward trend so marked during the holiday season has been a steady movement throughout the official year, which began on April 1.
