RAIN IN THE NORTH
DOWNPOUR AT WHANGAREI STIMULATION OF GROWTH [by telegraph—OWN correspondent] WHANGAREI, Wednesday The intense heat experienced in Whangarei during the past few days was tempered by heavy rain which fell from two to nine o'clock this morning. The fall was ,71in. The remainder of the day was beautifully fine. The rain will further stimulate growth generally, which this season has been abnormally good. The fall was fairly general throughout the district. SHOWERS AT PUKEKOHE LITTLE EFFECT ON PASTURES [from our own correspondent] PUKEKOHE, Wednesday Several showers of rain fell at Pukckohe during the night, and gardens have been slightly benefited, but the fall does not appear to have boon heavy enough to appreciably re vivo pastures. To-day has been line. The wind has been from the south-west and tho weather has been much cooler thaw yesterday.
