RATES AT WHANGAREI
PAYMENT OF ARREARS
RETURNS SHOW INCREASE
[BY TELEGRAPH —OWN CORRESPONDENT] WHANGAREI, Wednesday
A feature of the rates collected by the Whangarei Borough Council to December 31 is the increase in the arrears paid. As the 10 per cent penalty is not imposed until March 1. only a small proportion of the rates have as yet been paid. Following are the figures to December 31, 1934, with those for the same period of 1933 in parentheses:—Borough rate collectable. £25,544 (£24,330); paid, £2315 (£2291) harbour board rate collectable, £2610 (£2641); paid, £249 (£261); arrears of borough rates paid, £2052 (£1794). As the harbour board rate was levied only two years ago there are no arrears.
