GERMAN TRADE

PAYMENTS TO BRITAIN

FOREIGN EXCHANGE ISSUES - PROPOSED RESTRICTION PROVISIONAL DECISION By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright (Received January i. 7.35 p.m.) British Wireless RUGBY. Jan. 3 The Anglo-German payments consultative committee has agreed that, in view of substantial issues in November and December of foreign exchange certificates in respect of imports of United Kingdom goods into Germany, the total issue for payments in January and February, 1935, may be restricted to 17,000,000 reichmarks (about £1,400,000) in each month.

This is estimated to represent the 55 per cent of the value of German exports to the United Kingdom for which provision is made in the agreement. The restriction is to be brought into force only if it is justified to prevent the foreign exchange required for payment for imports from the United Kingdom exceeding the 55 per cent •allocation.
