HERD-TESTING

AVERAGE YIELD LOWER EFFECT OF THE DRY SPELL [from our own correspondent] HAMILTON, Thursday A decrease in the number of cows tested is again shown in the returns of the New Zealand Herd-testing Association for November, 1934, as compared with the corresponding period the previous year. A total of 08,935 cows was tested, compared with 109,464 in November, 1933, a decrease of 1U.520. The total in November, 1932, was 102,620. Tho effect of the dry weather during the month is shown in a decrease in the average yield of milk per cow. The average last November was 8261b., with 36.321b. of butter-fat and a test of 4.39. In November, 1933, the average yield per cow was 8351b. of milk and 37.071b. of butter-fat, with a test of 4.44, and in November, 1932, 8301b. of milk and 35.541b. of butter-fat, with a test of 4.28. It is probable that owing to tho continued dry spell the December returns will show a considerable further decrease in tho yield.
