RALLY OF YOUTH

CHILDREN AT DOMAIN PRINCE TO BE PRESENT GATHERING OF OVER 6000 DETAILS OF ARRANGEMENTS The children's rally at the Domain this morning is likely to prove one of the most notable functions in the Prince's Auckland visit. Although the

schools are closed for the holidays and many children are away at the seaside and other holiday resorts, over 6000 schoolchildren, Girl Guides and Boy Scouts are expected to participate in young Auckland's welcome to the King's son. The parade has been arranged by the Mayor, Mr. G. W. Hutchison, who has been assisted by many voluntary workers, and most of the large business houses in the city have agreed to observe a half-holiday this morning in order that members of their staffs may witness the scene at the Domain. Contingents From Country Nearly 1000 country children will take part in the rally. They will arrive at Newmarket railway station by special trains this morning from districts as far north as Hclcnsville and as far south as Mercer, and will then march to the Domain. For the city children special travelling arrangements at reduced fares have been made by the Auckland Transport Board, and, on their arrival at the Domain, the hoys and girls will be formed into groups of 54 by the voluntary marshals of the parade. Some schools have taken over their own organisation for the occasion and children from these institutions will march to the Domain.

Drawn up in Hollow Square Just before the arrival of the Duke and his party at 10.30, the children will be warned to stand in readiness. They will be drawn up in a hollow square. The Duke, who will motor to the Domain from Government House, via Prince's Street, O'Rorke Street, Symonds Street, Grafton Bridge, Park Road and Domain Drive, will be met bv the Mavor. The National Anthem will be played by the Municipal Band and the Auckland Girls' Athletic Association will give a display. Owing to a slight injury to his toot it is not expected the Prince will be able to leave his car. It is probable, therefore, that the original intention that he should walk round the ranks of the children will have to be abandoned. It is hoped that His Royal Highness will be able to address the ohildren from his car. Later the Mayor will call for three cheers for the Prince. All the children will be provided with flags, which they will wave as they cheer. Traffic Arrangements When the Duke leaves at the conclusion of the ceremony, the National Anthem will be played. Ilie children will be instructed to stand last until they are dismissed by an order given through the loud-speakers. An announcement was made last evening that Prince Henry would wear an ordinary lounge suit and a felt hat at the rally. . . A light lunch, the cost of which is being defrayed by the Government, will be provided for the country children, who, in the afternoon, before they leave by special trains for their homes, w ill be taken as guests to the Auckland Zoological Gardens. Special arrangements have been made for controlling the traffic while the Duke is travelling to and from the Domain. Ropes will be placed across Symonds Street from the Caledonian Hotel corner to the south-eastern end of Grafton Bridge, and no vehicles will be permitted in the Domain Drive from the intersection of Park Road to- the Domain cricket ground entrance. His Roval Highness will leave the Domain by the Carlton Gore Road entrance and the police will guard the exit into Carlton Gore Road and Park Road and the Carlton Gore Road intersection. Pedestrians and vehicles will not be allowed on Grafton Bridge until after His Royal Highness has passed. Ihe same procedure will be adopted on his return over the bridge.
