SADDLE HORSE BOLTS LEAP INTO SPECTATORS FOUR PEOPLE INJURED [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] INVERCARGILL, Thursday Four people were taken to hospital this afternoon as the result of a sensational accident in the ring at the Royal Show when the grand parade was almost completed. A saddle horse, ridden by Miss Hillary Jones, of Invercargill, took the bit between its teeth and bolted around the ring. Miss Jones remained firmly in the saddle as the horse galloped around. To the horror of the spectators, it suddenly leaped the rails, around which many people were clustered, and landed among them.

The rider fainted from the shock of the accident, but was unhurt. A family named Schmidt were the chief sufferers from the animal's flying hoofs. Katrina Schmidt, aged seven, is still in hospital suffering from a fractured arm, and Miss Nellie Schmidt, an aunt of the little girl, is also an inmate, suffering from injured ribs and bruises on the face. Marjorie Schmidt, aged nine, a third member of the family, who was sent to hospital, was discharged, also Sirs. Moylan, who was standing with the group. The mother of the injured children was knocked over, but escaped injury, although she suffered ' slightly from shock.

The horse, Mr. W. Hastie's Royal Lady, was not injured, and later took part in the championship jump.
