ANTI-WAR CAMPAIGN
Sir, —The repeated attempts of " Militant Pacifist " to brand Ne\l- Zealand as a nation desirous of war, and to which he now adds the impeachment of every one of our Members of Parliament as being war-minded, cotild be dismissed with a shrug were it not for the fact that outside nations, especially those of the East, not acquainted with British mentality and the tolerance permitted fanatical would-be reformers in this country, are liable to be misled. Your correspondent asks if I remember what occurred here in 1927 in connection with China. I admit I do not, probably because it was so trivial not one in a recollects anything about it. But it is no use quibbling. The point is, do the people of New Zealand want war, as implied by "Militant Pacifist." I say not a single person from North Cape to Bluff does, and your correspondent may sleep, soundly on that assurance. The only risk lies in himself and his pacifist friends leading outside nations to infer that New Zealand is war-minded, thereby provoking the very troubles we wish to avoid. If the pacifists really desire peace they will cease talking so much about war and allow the country to concentrate a little on defence, quite a different matter. Anti-Humbug.
