CARTER ADMITS OFFENCE FINE OF £3 IMPOSED i Three charges of false pretences were admitted by a middle-aged man, "Walter Schofield (Mr. Milne), who appeared on summons in the Police Court yesterday, before Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M. It was alleged that defendant, with intent to defraud, had obtained from Charles Bently Seymour sums of money totalling 9s 3d by altering delivery dockets.. ; - ■ Senior Detective Hall said defendant was a carter and most of; his work was done about the city markets. He had purchased fruit and vegetables on behalf of complainant and had altered the delivery dockets to indicate that a greater amount had been paid for the goods than was actually the case. Counsel said his client had bought in his own name and the case was one which should have been brought before the Civil Court. He admitted that, m all, dockets to the extent of £3 or hi had been altered, but defendant was prepared to make restitutipn. The magistrate said he would take that into consideration. Defendant would be fined £3 and would be allowed 14 days to pay.
