THE MANGERE BRIDGE

AN IMPROVED APPROACH CITY NOT TO CONTRIBUTE Notice of its intention to widen the Onehunga entrance to the Mangere Bridge was received by the City Council last night from the Onehunga Borough Council. Jt was stated the present roadway was a danger to traffic, two fatal accidents having occurred there. The estimated cost of the work was £(3O and the City Council was asked to contribute 15 per cent of this amount, the percentage which it pays toward the cost of the upkeep of the bridge. it was stated by the city engineer, Mr. J. Tyler, that under an agreement made in March, 1922, the City Council contributed 15 per cent toward the cost of maintaining, repairing, improving and reconstructing the bridge, but no mention was made of the approaches. tie considered that the Onehunga Borough Council should bear the cost of widening the approach to the bridge in its own area.
