NORTH SHORE WATER
SUPPLY FROM CITY
REQUEST FOR TERMS
POSITION TOO INDEFINITE As the water supply question in Auckland has not been definitely settled the City Council is not prepared at present to state terms for a supply from Waitakere to Devonport, Takapuna and Xorthcote. A request was made by a joint committee of the three borough councils in February last for a statement of the terms on which the council would grant a supply or lease a suitable catchment area in the Waitakero Ranges. A reply was deferred until after a conference with suburban local bodies in May. At the end of August the North Shore committee again asked for the information. The council replied that it understood that Devonport, Takapuna and Northcote wensupporting the Auckland Provincial "Water Board Bill, then before Parliament, and that until the bill had been disposed of no reply could be given. The matter came up again last night when the council's Public Services Committee recommended that the North Shore committee be informed that as the water position had not been defintely settled and further action was proposed by several local bodies the council was still unable to give any definite reply to the questions asked.
The recommendation was adopted
