SILVER JUBILEE FUND
MONEY FOR CHARITIES It was decided at a meeting of the central committee of tho patriotic societies of Auckland to, support the Silver- Jubilee Fund inaugurated by the patriotic societies of Great Britain. It is hoped to raise in the Empiro a large sum of money, to be handed to the King for distribution among oharitable institutions. As it was considered by the committee that members of various other Auckland societies might bo willing to help, it was decided to suggest to several organisations that their members bo requested to enclose donations to the fund \yitb their annual subscriptions. v The committee also decided to support tho proposal made by the Hon. C. J. (Harrington, M.L.0., that a monument be erected to the memory of Governor Hobson before the Auckland centenary celebrations in 1940. It was thought that tho site of the old Government buildings in Anzac Avenue, suggested by Mr, Carrington, was the most" suitable'for such monument, and it was decided to approach the Mayor, Mr. G. W. Hutchison, in connection with the matter.
