UNSETTLED WEATHER * COOLER TEMPERATURES The weather report and forecast f op • New Zealand, issued last evening bv the Government meteorologist, was as follows:—A depression is passing east of New Zealand, but a slight secondary depression is following it in the south. A moderate anti-cyclone, is advancing across the Tasman Sea. I cations are for rather variable winds at first, but southerlies later prevailing, moderate to strong. Seas rough i a the far south, elsewhere smooth to moderate, but rising later on the east coast. Moderate to strong south-west to so; th-east winds in the eastern Tasman Sea, and moderate to rather rough seas. "Weather fine on the west coast of the South Island; elsewhere still rather unsettled, with local showers at times. Temperatures becoming cooler. SPECIAL AUCKLAND FORECAST SHOWERY, BUT IMPROVING The Government meteorologist issued to the Herald Inst evening the following special forecast for the Auckland Province:—Moderate winds, turning to ' south-westerly and later to southerly. Weather still rather unsettled with some showers, but gradually improving and temperatures becoming cooler. Seas moderate. YESTERDAY'S WEATHER Auckland. —The weather was overcast and humid yesterday, occasional light showers being experienced. A light breeze was blowing from directions varying between north-east and west. The barometer was nearly normal last night, having ris£n ,10in during the 24 hours. The thermometer registered 71deg. at 4 p.m. Barometer, midnight, rising .. 29.S8in Midnight, Tuesday .. ;. 29.93 in' Wellington.—The weather was dull and misty in the early morning, but rapidly cleared and most of the day was fine and warm. There was a light southwesterly wind in the morning, changing to light northerly in the afternoon. The maximum temperature was 74.7 degrees. Christchurch. —Conditions were fine and sunny with a cool easterly breeze. The maximum temperature 5va5.65.9 degrees. The barometer, alter falling slightly, was steady at 29.76 in. Dunedin.—A light southerly wind and fine weather prevailed yesterday with passing cloud and sunshine. The maximum temperature was 70 degrees.
