DEBATING CONTEST

ATHENAEUM CUP FINAL In the final contest for the Athenaeum Cup, conducted by the Auckland Literary and Debating Society, the Workers' Educational Association team defeated the Junior Chamber of Commerce representatives, the subject being "That Fascism is Uoing Established in Now Zealand." The winning team, which took the negative, comprised Miss Mary Martin and Messrs. L 5. Martin and J. S. Stewart. The Junior Chamber of Commerce representatives were Messrs. .J. 10. licachem, A. M. Doull and H. H. lnnes. The judges were Messrs. Louis I'lli 1 lips, \Y. H. Cocker and \V. J. Lyon. In announcing the decision Mr. Phillips said the debate had reached a very high standard and that the margin between the teams was very small. The criticism by the Workers' Educational Association, however, was more effective and the judges were unanimous in their decision.
