NEW MOTOR SPEEDWAY
GLOUCESTER PARK OPENING TRIAL RACES ON SATURDAY Preparatory to the opening of the new Gloucester Park Speedway afc Geddes Basin, Onehunga, by the Governor-General, Lord Bledisloe, on January 5 practice races will be held at the speedway on Saturday. On the opening day there will he probably four motor-car races and two for motorcycles. For the rehearsal on Saturday only drivers, mechanics and their friends will be admitted to the course. New cars will be inspected officially and tliero will be practice runs by them and other cars before a series of trial races is held. There also will be an opportunity for drivers to discuss rules. Regulations for the conduct of events have been tightened up considerably by the New Zealand Motor Racing Drivers' Association, which will conduct the meeting. The wearing of crash helmets and white racing uniforms will be compulsory.
It is expected the track will be in good condition for the opening meeting and some thrilling racing is antici. pated. The recent heavy rain will have I the effect of consolidating the surface. , Water has been laid on around tho I track so that it will he possible to i water tho course between races if dust I develops, which is not very likely, j
