ROAD CONTRACTS LET

OTAMATEA COUNTY WORKS RUAWAI WATER SUPPLY [by telegraph—own correspondent] PAPAROA, Wednesday Contracts for a number of important county works for which Government grants had been received were let by the Otamatea County Council to-day. The main portion of the £IOOO grant for the Parahi Road, which is part of the Tokatoka-Matatoke Road, was involved in a contract let to Mr. E. E. Bellingham for £787. In regard to the Kaiwaka-Oneriri Road, for which a £SOO free grant was made, it was resolved to invite fresh tenders in view of the fact that a new quarry is available. Under the Hall's Road, Hukatere, grant of £7OO (£2 for £1), a contract of £'B9 was let to Mr. P. C. Taylor, whose tender of £242 for work on Neems Road, Hukatere, out of a grant of £3OO (£6 for £1) was also accepted. Other contracts were let as follows: —Devcich's Road (formation), to Mr. J. Walker, £66; Wall ace Road, Ruawai (metalling), to Mr. J. Hammond, £33: Kaiwaka settlement (metalling), to Linnell Brothers, £202.

New specifications arc to be drawn up and fresh tenders called for divining and boring operations connected with the Ruawai water supply, for which it is proposed to create a special rating area, it is hoped to (foal with the tenders at the next meeting. Mr. Wright, of the Public Works Department, is to be requested to confer with the council and the Ruawai Water Supply Committee at the Council Chambers at that meeting.
