MEMORIAL AT OPOTIKI SERGEANT DICK TRAVIS [BY TELEGRAPH OWN CORRESPONDENT] OrOTIKI, Wednesday A memorial to Sergeant Dick Travis Savage (widely known as Dick Travis), V.C., D.C.M., M.M., Croix de Guerre (Hclge), one of the bravest men in the Great War, will be unveiled at the Opotiki High School on Friday. Sergeant Travis, who was educated nt tho Opotiki school, left New Zealand with the Main Body. He was killed in action in France on Julv 25, 10] 8.
"So far as I can recall no one in the Regiment, with which Dick Travis served, ever questioned him officially as to his full name, but it was knowledge common to many of us that his real name was Savage, and that he came from the Bay of Plenty district." said a member of the regiment yesterday, when statements concerning alleged secrecy as to Travis' identity wero referred to him. "When he was killed there was some concern lest his relatives might not become aware of the fact, but later we learned that they had been advised."
