FEWER MISSIONARIES
THE LACK OF FINANCE SOLOMON ISLAND FIELD Retrenchment of a number of missionaries working in the Solomon Islands, the withdrawal of the doctors, and the closing of the hospital at Bilua, due to the present financial stress, weire among the matters referred to in the departmental report on foreign mission work presented to the Methodist Synod sitting in Wellington lasii week. The retrenchment of the doctors was described by the Rev. F. E. Leadley, who presented the report, as a serious blow to the work. If every one of the 25,000 members of the Neir Zealand Methodist Church would give only a hsilf-crown each beyond their usual subscription, the whole of these workers oould be reinstated, he said. It was stated that necessary economies ill staffing and administration involved a reduction of £2500 in the expenditure on the work in the Solomons.
