OFFHSIAL OPENINGS FUNCTIONS ON SATURDAY / CLUB AND INTER-CLUB GAMES The Auckland Bowling Club opened its summed - season on Saturday. In the absence through illness of the president, Mr. R. T. Michaels, tic senior vicepresident, I Dr. N. McDougall, welcomed the visitors, and declared the greens open. He referred with particular pleasure to the presence of a number of old members of the club, including Mr. James C&rlaw, who has been actively associated with the club for 43 years and is now a life member. Dr.; McDougall also welcomed 22 new members, and mentioned the improvements to the grounds during the year, which included a' new full-sized croquet lawn, _to be used for croquet in summer and bowling in winter. He pointed with appreciation to the fine condition of the bowling greens, and congratulated the green 'superintendent, Mr. W. Lenderyou, and the *' greenkeeper. Mr. C. H. Colley, on the results of their Dt. McDougall's daughter. Sheila, threw the first jack, and her sister,' Nelsa. played the first bowl. The greens were then declartJl open for play. PONSONBY CLUB The Ponsanby Bowling Club's 1934-35 sca•011 was officially opened on Saturday by the president, Mr. H. Hunt, ■who welcomed about 150 members and friends. He spoke on the improvements that had beqp inade during the last season, and also mentioned -with regret the deaths of Mr. J. Rees. a life member of the ciub, Mr. J. A. Maxwell and Mr. J. Mercer.
