HIKURANGI COAL MINES
FLOODED SHAFT SEALED GOOD PROSPECTS AT WARO [by telegraph—OWN correspondent] HIKUKANGI, Friday The Hikurangi Coal Company's flooded shaft mine at Hikurangi was finally sealed last evening and the work of overhauling and dismantling the generators is being carried out. A float was placed in the concrete with which the shaft is sealed so that the height of water in the shaft can bo ascertained whenever required. Up .to today the water had risen 148 ft. and is still rising slowly. At the company's Waro mine, which adjoins the shaft mine, the water is being held at No. 8 level with the two pumps that were installed early last week. Interviewed this evening, Mr. H. Brady, the manager of both mines, stated the prospects for the Waro mine were very bright and the mine should be worked for some considerable time. The production for this week would be between 700 and 800 tons. The company had a number of men prospecting at various points on the company's property and from several of these areas coal of good quality was being supplied.
