WOMAN'S 107 th BIRTHDAY
One of the oldest women in Great Britain celebrated her 107 th birthday last month. She is Mrs. Ellen Palmer, of Blackheath, London, who was born in the reign of George IV., and remembers the potato famine in Ireland and the Lancashire cotton famine of many years ago A big family tea party was held at Mrs. Palmer's house. The most important item on the table was a birthday cake bearing 107 candles. When seen by a Daily Mirror representative Mrs. Palmer looked scarcely a day over eighty. Although she is now unable to read, even with the aid of glasses, she takes a keen interest in the news of the day, and every morning her daughter reads to her from the newspapers.
