FREEZING COMPANY'S YEAR SOUTH OTAGO OPERATIONS [BV TELEGRAPH—I'ItKSS ASSOCIATION] DUNEDIN, Friday The annual meeting of the South Otago Freezing Company, Limited, was held at Balclutha to-day, the chairman of directors, Mr. P. McSkimming, M.P., j presiding. The chairman, in moving the adopti ion of the annual report and balaneei sheet, said the company had killed ! 295,300 sheep and lambs this season, j compared with 327,104 the previous ! season, a decrease of 31,804. This was ! no doubt partly accounted for by the | fact that many farmers kept a larger I percentage of their ewe lambs last sea- | son than had been the case for several I years. The number of sheep killed had j also been considerably loss than in tho \ previous j'ear, this being accounted for, | no doubt, by the demand in the local I markets for sheep that would otherwise ! have been frozen. Tho number of cattle killed this season was 4188, an increase of 444 over the previous year. Tho directors had written off depreciation on land, buildings, plant and machinery to the extent of £4BOO, and, after placing £SOOO to general reserve and making provision for income tax, £9OOO, had remaining in the profit and loss account a credit balance of £14,202. This included a carrjf forward of £5838 from tho previous year. Tho directors recommended tho payment of an 8 per cent dividend. This would absorb £5304, and leave a balance of £BB9B to be carried forward. The motion was carried.
