BOXING
AMATEUR TOURNAMENT AUSTRALIA AND AUCKLAND A high standard of boxing has been shown at all carnivals conducted by the Auckland Boxing Association this season, culminating in the Auckland provincial amateur championships a few weeks ago. Undoubtedly the finest amateur programme, however, will bo offered at the Town Hall on Monday evening, when the visiting team of Australian amateurs will meet the AVkland champions. At the New Zealand championships members of the Auckland team acquitted themselves well, proving that by only slight margins they were inferior in ability to the ultimato winners, and for this reason the Australians will have to be at the top of their form when they step into the Auckland ring. Both teams have been engaged during the week int putting the final touches to their training, and patrons should not be disappointed with the entertainment which will be offered.
The programme arranged for the Australians is as follows:—To-day: Arrive Auckland from Rotorua, 4 p.m.. stay at Hotel Auckland; evening, guests Majestic Theatre. To-morrow: morning, free; afternoon, motor drive round Auckland, leaving Hotel Auckland 2 p.m.: evening, free. Monday: 11 a.m., guests Auckland Trotting Club; 8 p.m.. v. Auckland amateurs at Town Hall. Tuesday: day, free; evening, guests Civic Theatre. Wednesday: Day, free: evening. Takapuna Grammar Boxing tournament. Thursday: Day, free; evening, 6 p.m., farewell dinner Hotel Auckland: 8 p.m.. guests Regent Theatre. Friday: Leave for Sydney. VISIT TO ROTORUA [by telegraph OWN correspondent] ROTORUA. Friday The membeis of the Australian boxing team were received at the model pa at Whakarewarewa this morning by the Arawa party and given a Maori welcome.
