PHILIP HARGRAVE
FIRST CONCERT TO-NIGHT Keen expectancy is being shown by Auckland music-lovers in Philip Hargrove's opening concert at His Majesty's Theatre to-night. Twelve years old, and able to master the intricacies of the great masters, and not only to master their technique, but to interpret their message with an instinctive sense —surely this young lad has deservedly earned the distinction of being " Australia's music sensation " of the age. " One of the astounding things about Philip's playing," wrote a critic, "is the feeling of innate character his interpretations give, of freedom from all stiffness or indecision of mind, as of finger. Audiences by thousands have sat entranced in the largest halls in the principal cities of Australia, spellbound at the witchery and nimbloness of those little hands negotiating difficult scales and passages, and reveaiing such a knowledge of moods and climaxes. .Just a young sunshiny boy, without precocity, but born with a rare genius tor the piano. That he is a phenomenon is widely recognised, and that he wins all hearts is another truism." J. and N. Tait are directing the tour of the lad. Mr. J. Alexander Browne, a popular Australian baritone, will be the supporting artist. Booking arrangements are advertised.
