SILVER JUBILEE
DANNEVIRKE EVENING NEWS The Dannevirke Evening News celebrates the 25th anniversary of its first issue by the publication of a special 12-page number containing much matter of historical interest. The progress of journalism in the district from its earliest beginnings in 1888, when the Bush Advocate made .its appearance, is recorded in a way that emphasises how closely the history of the district and the history of its newspapers have been associated. Effective illustrations show past and present members of the board of directors and the staffs of the Evening News and also its plaut and well-equipped premises. Of the original board of directors only two are now living, Mr. L. 0. Rathbone and Mr. A. Henderson, who are both living in Auckland. Tributes are paid to men who have given notable service to the paper and to the way in which grave difficulties have been met and overcome. Friends of the Evening News will agree that its first 25 years has been an encouraging experience and will echo its hope that the next 25 years will witness even bigger developments in it and in the district it serves.
