RAILWAY EARNINGS

PERIOD. TO SEPTEMBER 15 SMALL INCREASE IN REVENUE [bv telegraph—OWN correspondent] "WELLINGTON, Tlfirsday Fill details of railway revenue for the period ended September 15, concerning which a preliminary statement was made on October 7, are contained in the abstract of the working account published to-day. A working profit of £33,685 compares with the return of £31,011 for the corresponding period last year. The gross receipts for the four weeks were £450,543 or £33,764 more than last. year. Expenses at £416,858 were £31.000 higher. The operating account for the North Island shows a revenue of £229,246 and expenses amounting to £221,565. There was a profit of £7681, compared with £16,175 last year. The receipts for the South Island railways were £165,850 and the expenses £164,642, resulting in a working profit of £I2OB, compared with a loss of £9OIB last year The balance of miscellaneous revenue was £24,796 against £22,854 in 1933. The revenue was £55,447 and the expenditure £30.651, For the period from April 1 to September 15 the net'revenue was £334,571 as against £27B:79l_last year. The gross revenue was £2,807,177, an increase ol £175,778. Tlie expenditure was £2.472,603, an increase of £119,994.
