STAY IN AUCKLAND

MUSEUM VISIT PROPOSED A suggestion that the Duke of Gloucester should be invited to visit the War Memorial Museum during his stay in Auckland was made at a meeting of the council of the Auckland Institute and Museum yesterday. The matter -eras raised by" Mr. H. E. Vaile, who said the matter should be • brought before those arranging the tour. Sir George Richardson said it was practically certain the Duke would place a wreath at the foot of the Cenotaph. His suggestion was that a parade of returned soldiers should be held at the same time and that subsequently His Eoval Highness might inspect the interior of the museum. The chairman, Sir Cecil Leys, undertook to bring the matter before the proper authorities. CHILDREN'S GATHERING EDUCATION BOARD'S VIEW The previous attitude of the Auckland Education Board regarding a children's display during the visit of the Duke of Gloucester to Auckland was adhered to at a meeting of the board yesterday. " As the schools will bo closed, it will not be possible for the Education Board to do anything in the matter of organising school children to tako part in the reception to the Duke of Gloucester," said the chairman, Mr. T. U. Wells, when a communication was received from the Education Department inviting the board to make such arrangements as were possible. At a previous meeting of the board, Mr. Wells had explained that it was proposed to hold the gathering ten days after the schools had closed for the holidays. Once the schools had closed teachers were scattered throughout the Dominion and many families went out of town. "I think it would bo impossible to arrange anything in the nature of a well-conducted display," he said, "and if wo cannot do it well, wo should not do it at all."
