TOURIST TROPHY RACE

EVENT FOR MOTOR-CYCLES DATE FIXED FOR DECEMBER 29 The date of tho New Zealand Tourist Trophy motor-cycle race at Ostend, Waiheko Island, this season has been definitely fixed for December 29, bringing it within the Christmas holidays. In previous years the race has been held on January 29, Anniversary Day. The race has been increasing in popularity each year. In last January's event there wore 21 competitors, including a large proportion of visiting riders, some of them from as far south as Nelson and Blenheim. Most of the southern riders will again take part in December's contest, together with a few additional ones. It is known that M. Jones has imported an Excelsior J.A.P. and that C. Winters, of Dunedin, also is expecting one. C. R. Allen, of Blenheim, who rode a Sunbeam last year, now has a Royal Enfield Bullet, while W. White is due to return to Auckland irom England with parts to improve the performance of Velocities. The prizes this year will be as follows: First prize, £35 and cup valued at 20 guineas; second prize, £ls and certificate; third prize, £lO and certificate. Mr. S. J. Gibbons, of Marton, has presented a cup valued at two guineas for the best performance by a first-year rider. The race will be run even if wet weather prevails.
