DEFINITION OF TERMS

CLEARER MEANING GIVEN SECURITY TO LESSEES [BY TELEGRAPH SPECIAL REPORTER] WELLINGTON, Wednesday Although the -Mining Amendment Bill, as reported to the House by the Mines Committee to-day, has been considerably recast, most of the alterations are designed to clarify the meaning of some clauses. The principal amendment is to define more clearly the definition of the terms "Crown lands," "private lands" and "unalienated Crown lands." This has been done to clear up certain technical anomalies and to give greater security to holders of leases of valuable agricultural lands. The Crown has recognised the principle that land occupied under any leas© or licence, if destroyed by mining operations, must be paid for, and provision is made for compensation to the lessee.
