WEATHER MAINLY FAIR r MODERATE RAIN IN SOUTH The weather report and forecast f or New Zealand issued last evening the Government meteorologist was a & follows: A westerly depression of slight, intensity is advancing from the Tasm ail Sea and is beginning to cross tho South Island. The indications are f or moderate to strong northerly winds at, first, except "in the far south, and freshening' at times. A southerly changeis advancing from the south and will extend to beyond Cook Strait soon, Seas rough south of Cape Egmont and in Cook and Foveaux Straits, else-, where smooth to moderate. In thci eastern Tasman Sea, moderate to strong northerly winds at first i tl places, but a change to southerlies ij advancing from the west. Seas rather rough. Scattered and mainly light to moderate rain is likely in weisterri districts south of Kawhia, later ex, tending along eastern parts of the South Island, but for tho most part the weather will be fair. Temperature are becoming cooler over the South Island. v SPECIAL AUCKLAND FORECAST SCATTERED SHOWERS LIKELY The Government meteorologist issued to the lleeald last night the follow, ing special weather forecast for the Auckland Province: —Moderate to fresh northerly winds, changing to southwesterly soon. The weather will be mainly fair to fine and mild, but some scattered showers are likely at times. Seas moderate. YESTERDAY'S WEATHER Auckland, —There was a continua- ' tion of fine, sunny weather yesterday and a, light breeze was blowing from the north-east. The barometer fell ,loi n . during the day, but was steady i n the erening. The temperature at 4 p.m. was 65.Grieg., and the maximum during the day was 59.1deg. Chris tchurch. The weather was sunny, fine and warm, with the maximum temperature 69.6deg. The barometer., after falling, was last evenimr steady at 29.85 in. 15 Dunedin.—The weather was pleas- . antly fine and mild, although overcast. There was no wind, and the maximum temperature was 58deg. The bate- 1 meter dropped sharply to 29.70 in., ami then became steady.
