Pratt, who will not have to miss any meals for fear of overweight for quite a while yet. He weighs 4st. 81b. A newcomer to tho tracks at Ellerslie is a two-year-old Reldine by Acre from Spring Song, by Nie:ger Minstrel—Kitty Barlowe, by Nassau—Sweet Alice, by Soult. He has only been taken in hand recently, and it will be some time before he is ready to undertake any serious work. The three-year-old Heather Land, by Acre from Purple Heather, who recently ioined J. C. Lambeas' team at Ellerslie, is a nice type of horse, and looks like one who may gallop well when lite is tried seriously. So far he hai> not undertaken any serious tasks, but he _is thriving and steadily acquiring condition. L. J. Ellis has decided not to make a definite engagement for the New Zealand Cup until after the Ellerslie meeting. If Spiral races vrell enough" at Ellerslie to justify his Cup preparation being continued Ellis will ridu him. otherwise he will have the mount on Sweet Agnes, who is one of the early favourites for the race. Two Riccarton two-year-olds, Greek Shepherd and Penelope, were taken to Wingatiu, but owing to unfavourable track conditions neither was produced. Both are by Iliad, whose stock have plenty of size and appear as if they will take time. It waei therefore considered unwise to gallop this Pair in the heavy going. Both will probably go to Trentham.
