BYRD EXPEDITION
TRAOTOR PARTY'S ADVANCEUNFAVOURABLE WEATHER (Received October 7, 6.35 p.m.) NEW TOKK. Oct. G A wireless message from the Byrd Antarctic expedition si.t Little America says:— On Friday morning the tractor party reached a point 180 nautical miles east of Little America, within easy distance of the objective—the Edsel Ford range —which the party expects to reach within two days. Mr. June estimates that they have reached an altitude of 4000 feet. The weather continues bad, ga;les and low temperatures prevailing. Four supply depots have been established at 30, 90, 120 and 180 miles from Little America, for {future explorations. Activities at the main camp are curtailed owing to the continued unfavourable weather. The scheduled tractor t\dv:snce to tho Boiling advance base has been postponed. However, it is hoped that full spring operations will be under way by October 15.
