TEAM FROM AUSTRALIA MATCHES IN MEW ZEALAND I TO APPEAR AT AUCKLAND The Australian amateur boxing team, which is to mate appearances in Intercargill, Wellington and Auckland during the present month, arrived fay the Marama yesterday. The members of the team arc W. Burns, A. Warbrick, H. G. Gillam, C. J. Miles, nil of Queensland, and A. W. Taylor, Tasmania, S. 0.. Inskip, J. M. Moore, New South Wales, and H. Cooper, of Victoria. The team is accompanied by Mr,, W. McCiusky as manager and a trainer, Mr. W. T. Lake, also two well-known Australian boxing enthusiasts, Messrs. J. P. Davey and J. T. Martin Of this team, three appeared against the New Zealandera during; their visit to the Commonwealth last ytiar. These are Burns, Inskip and Cooper. The Australians were met by the president of the Auckland Boxing Association, Mr. G. Bush, and several members of that body. The performances of the Australian team c,re excellent. The lly-weight, H. Cooper (Victoria), aged 20, ha:-; had 30 contests and lost only two, one,foeing to C. Puie, of Queensland, nt las;t year's Australian championships. Cooper holds the Victorian State titles for 1933-34 and was winner of the Australian, championships in Melbourne in 1932. B. Gillam (Queensland), the bantam, 23 years, of age, has had ten contests in his boxing career and has secured all decisions by a knock-out in the first round. He won the State title in 1930, and is expected to be one of the sensations in New Zealand. J. Moore (New South Wales), featherweight, aged 21, holds the Australian title for 1933, was State title-holder in the bantam class in 1932, and feather in 1933-34. He has had 26 bouts, and lost only four. The light-weight representative, A. Taylor (Tasmania), aged 21, has he'd the titles of his division in his State for the last three years. He his had 42 contesta, and lost seven. In the welter class, A. Warbrick, of Queensland, aged 22, will attempt to take a title back to Australia. He holds State titles of fly-weight in 1929, bantam 1930 and welter 1934. He has; had 40 contests and won 37. He was a competitor st last year's New Zealand championships in Blenheim, and was defeated by B. Purdy in the finals. . The middle-weight, J. Miles (Queensland), aged 21, is appearing in his twenty-first contest. W. Burns, _ lightheavy (Queensland), aged 29, is the present Australian middle-weight champion and State heavy and middle titleholder. He has had 86 bouts, and lostonlv two. The heavy-weight, S. Inskip (New South Wales), holds, the New South Wales police championship title. The Australians will meet this winners of the various New Zealand' amateur championships at Hasting:? last month at Invereargill next Wednesday evening. The follovnng Monday they will oppose the Wellington amateur champions at Wellington-, while on October 22 they will oppose the Auckland champions at Auckland.
