PROFITABLE BROOD MARE THE DAM OF WAIKARE The Absurd mare Watcrwings, dam of tho Metropolitan winner Waikare, has been a very profitable brood mare for the Koatanui Stud, but some of her progeny have proved expensive to their buyers. Agrion, the first of her productions to Limond, was one of the exceptions, being considered by the late Mr. R. J. Mason to have been one of tho best gallopers he had ever handled, but unfortunately the colt failed to train oil after winning the New Zealand Derby in 1927. Agnon' cost 875sns. as a yearling, and the next foal, White Wings, realised 725«n5. A chestnut filly, also by Limond. went to an Australian buyer for 420gns„ but no more, f was heard of her. Then came Zet«. who established a record by fetching 2400priB as a yearling, but ho proved a rank failure and as late a« last summer was not capable of winning races on the West Coast cirThe next year Mr. A. Louisson purchased Water Polo! by Pombal, for 600gns and although ho won a little money he was a bad investment and tho owner accepted 25gns. for him at Trcntham last January. Chile, by Limond, was secured in the following season by the late Mr. G. D.Green wood for 600;?ns„ but did no good for him and wan eventually sold for 60gps. to a Southern owner, who won two minor raceo with him, in ono of which he paid three firureo, but the owner did not participate. Waikare was the next foal and at GnOgns. he can be considered easily the most payable production of Watcrwings, who missed in 1931 aid 1932 and waa not served in 1932 and 1933. , , The total received from the progeny named was 6270gn.i RACING FIXTURES October 4, 6—Dunedin Jockey Club.
