PROFESSOR'S DEATH
SIR JOHN ADAMS NOTED EDUCATIONALIST RECENT DOMINION VISIT The death has occurred at Los Angeles of Sir- John Adams, M A., 8.50.,, LL.D., F.C.P., a prominent English educationalistt, v;ho visited New Zealand some years ago, accord inn to private advice received iii Auckland yesterday. ' . Born at Glasgow 77 years ago, Sir John Adams graduated from the university of Glasgow with tirsvclass honours in mental and moral science. Ho later became headmaster of Jean Street School. Port- Glasgow, and then rector of the Grammar School. Campbeltown. After being principal of training colleges at Aberdeen and Glasgow, he became lecturer in education at the University of Glasgow. Ho was president of the Educational Institute of Scotland in 1896-97. and five years later visited Canada on the Educational Commission. For 20 years from 1902 be wan principal of the London Day Training College and professor of education at the University of London. He was the author of several books on educational subjects and also contributed to educational and other magazines. Retiring in 1922„ he became professor emeritus of the University, in London. Shortly afterward he went to the United States and lectured on education at Harvard, Yale and Princeton Universities and the University of California. In 192.5 Sir John visited New Zealand, Australia and South Africa, and undertook lecture tours on behalf of the respective Governments. On his return to the United States he continued to lecture at the four universities and resided at Los Angeles. He retired about a year ago. Sir John is survived by Lady Adams, who was formerly Miss Agnes Cook, daughter of the late Mr. John Cook, of Aberdeen, and sister of Mr. John Cook, of Esplanade Road, Mount Eden. There is no family.
